We see empires rise and fall. We remember and uphold some remarkable men and women, great leaders of their time; fierce individuals. We forget the slave, the peasant, the worker, the men and women on whose backs all empires were built.
The wealthiest noble with his gold alone cannot put a potato in the soil and make it grow. In this painting I roll out the red for the worker, and remind myself that today there are still empires at large who eye this earth as their personal backyard and all those willing to play the consumerist, debt-driven game as their slaves.
